Head Lice Alert – The New Danger

Stop the attack, fight back and win against aggressive head lice.

It’s an invasion; a direct assault on your children and other family members. Nothing gets your blood going like this.  You feel like screaming, “Leave my kids alone!” While this may make us feel better, there are more effective treatments to destroy head lice, tiny insect parasites that live on the scalp. Here are the latest developments.
For years, doctors and most over-the-counter remedies have relied on pyrethrins, or the synthetic permethrin, which are common topical solutions. The problem is that over time, the lice evolve and undergo genetic mutations that make them more resistant to this treatment.
The New Danger
The November 2014 issue of Popular Science has dubbed these new evolved strains “Superlice,” and notes they are already prevalent in such far-apart countries such as Argentina and Israel. In this article, Dr. John Clark, a University of Massachusetts Amherst toxicologist, reports that many U.S. lice strains are starting this genetic mutation – making them even harder to kill.
What You Can Do
Experts agree that no one single method is best, especially given this troubling new development. Rather, success lies in taking multiple action steps:
 - Proven no-nonsense programs, usually starting with a powerful alternative but non-toxic (for people) topical mousse/shampoo.
 - Repeated fine-tooth coming using specialized tools that target and remove not only the lice, but their smallest eggs as well.
 - Careful inspection and follow-up procedures.
 - Specific customized at-home treatments and protocols that continue the program and keep lice away.

Call in the Specialists: DeLiceful
Dr. Clark also recommends professional solutions. That’s because skilled, established pros like those at DeLiceful will launch an immediate full-scale assault on the problem using ALL of the methods described above, and their own proprietary techniques. The qualified technicians at DeLiceful have seen it all, every day, and they know what to look for and how to fix it, using the latest knowledge, alternative organic products and strict regimen. No Shame, New Gains in the Fight Against Head Lice

Few four letter words can grab your attention like L- I- C-E. Particularly Head Lice, and especially if you are a parent. Head lice are tiny insect parasites that live on the scalp. They are about the size of a sesame seed. They lay eggs which attach to the base of the hair and hatch baby lice, called nymphs. Nits are the empty shells left behind, which also need to be removed.

Head lice are most common among pre-school and elementary-age children, and even through middle school. Length of hair is not a factor in attracting lice, but can be a factor in the treatment and eradication. Girls are somewhat more at risk than boys, and they can easily spread to adults as well. Lice find new victims by moving through head-to-head contact and by children sharing personal items such as combs, hats, stuffed animals and so on.

The Big Picture

 • In the U.S., the number of infected at any given time is estimated to be between 6 to 12 million (according to pharmaceutical companies) and as high as 21 million (CDC.)
 • Forget the embarrassment.  Evidence of lice has been found by archeologists examining early human remains. Lice are not necessarily the result of unsanitary conditions. In fact, lice seem particularly attracted to clean hair.
 • Key times to watch out for are, of course, when children go back to school after summer vacation, and school breaks. It also pays to be vigilant when the kids go away to camp or engage in other group activities.

Symptoms

Be on the lookout for itching, particularly behind the ears and upper neck, near the hairline. Because lice are small, and can move quickly, use a magnifying glass in good light to inspect your child’s head.  Part the hair carefully and look from different angles. Sand and dandruff are sometimes mistaken for lice and nits. If you do see the little troublemakers, do not despair. You have a choice of treatment options.

What Now

It’s really a team effort. While there are many home remedies and effective treatments/shampoos available, the new and most current “best practices” involve working with professionals like DeLiceful to launch an immediate, full-scale assault on the little pests.

Our next article will explain more about these new treatment methods and how professional treatment centers can save you time and solve the problem more quickly and effectively than ever before. In the meantime, to learn more, visit:

Long Island Head Lice Treatment

Long Island-based DeLiceful does not use any toxic chemicals or pesticides for head lice removal, and all of our lice treatment products are natural and chemical-free.

Long Island-based DeLiceful does not use any toxic chemicals or pesticides for head lice removal, and all of our lice treatment products are natural and chemical-free.

Head Lice Treatment

DeLiceful first applies a natural organic enzyme-based product to stun the live lice and make the nit removal process easier. Once the hair is saturated with the enzyme, we use a special nit comb to... comb, comb, comb, comb, comb... through the entire head until nits or lice are no longer visible. After combing, we check the entire head, using paper-thin sections, manually removing any remaining nits. Once the manual nit removal is complete, we blow-dry the hair and perform a recheck to ensure all nits and lice were removed.
Once the client is finally "de-liced" of all nits and lice, we put more enzyme product in the hair and comb through short hair or put long hair in a pony tail.

After Treatment

The parent or guardian will be responsible for washing the enzyme product out of the hair with shampoo 2 to 8 hours after application or before going to sleep or swimming.

The client will be required to have a complimentary recheck* after the initial treatment. During this time Deliceful highly recommends using an anti-lice shampoo every day until the recheck.

DeLiceful also recommends that all family members should be checked if one person in the home has lice; avoid sharing hair care items, towels, bedding, clothing, hats and headgear; combs, brushes and  similar items should be thoroughly cleaned in hot, soapy water; recently worn clothing and bedding should be washed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer for at least 20 minutes before being used again; items that can’t be washed or dried should be dry-cleaned; thoroughly vacuum carpets, furniture, floors and seats in cars.

If you are nit-free for 10 to 12 days straight, you have successfully gotten rid of your head louse infestation... You have been "de-liced"!

All DeLiceful products are organic and safe to use for all ages.  All products are pesticide free & non-toxic.

* Your complimentary recheck appointment is scheduled approximately 3 to 7 days after the initial treatment.  Should you be unable to keep your scheduled recheck appointment, please contact DeLiceful to cancel and/or reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours before your appointment. If you do not call to cancel and/or reschedule your recheck appointment, you will be required to pay a head check fee.
